BREAKING NEWS! Strike date Postponed!

We were notified by the Fact-Finding Neutral that due to the complexity of the issues, he will not have a report ready until the end of March or first week in April. We had anticipated having a fact-finding report by this week. But with this news, it is clear that we will not be "strike legal" on March 24, and must postpone our one-day strike. The Executive Board met tonight, March 8, and set a date of April 22 for our strike. Let’s use this time to keep organizing, hold house meetings, keep the pressure on, build on the momentum from March 4!

Where Were You On March 4?

What an amazing day! Keep sending your stories and pictures — and also post them to www.standupforschools.org, too, as some of you have already done. It was truly inspiring to see and to hear about all the creative activities you did with your students!

(San Francisco, San Lorenzo, Dublin and other districts are holding mock drills.)

It’s About Priorities!

The facts are on our side. The district under state administration squandered resources, built a bloated top administration with Expect Success! funds, outsourced millions of dollars to consultants, and now under "local control" is forced to pay for the debt on the backs of our students and teachers. Click here to download OEA’s latest flyer in English, Spanish, and Chinese, detailing where the money has gone — circulate it to your colleagues, distribute it to parents, and demand that teachers and education professional get a fair contract NOW!

Montclair Women’s Club • 1650 Mountain Blvd

Join teachers, parents, students and community organizations to help Create Success in Oakland classrooms. Let’s help set OUSD priorities: keep reduced class sizes; give teachers enough planning time; provide enough materials for students and teachers; make all schools clean, healthy and safe teaching and learning environments.

We look forward to seeing many of you there!
Betty
